Summer FiCB LG – Sharing Long Walks Together

You know those personal ads that say “Looking for…Down-to-earth guy/girl, who enjoys long walks on the beach,or, I’m the only one?  For the record, I do not rummage through the classifieds for ‘casual encounters,’ or subscribed to any online-dating sites…(yet), but I am certain over 99.99% of people enjoy long walks on with their favorite companion.  For example, I’ve yet to come across ads that read, “I enjoy quick sprints on the seashore.” Or, “I challenge anyone to beat me in a somersault race (loser buys dinner).” Although, I can be mistaken…

The concept of ‘walking together’ isn’t just a romantic way to spend time together, but it’s also a Biblical illustration on the Christian Life. Throughout the Bible ‘walking’ is a metaphor of Perseverance and Companionship. In other words the Christian Life is reminding yourself, both ‘who’ you walk with and ‘why’ you walk together.
According to 1 John 1:6-7“If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice truth. But, if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Biblically speaking, walking is persevering in ‘righteousness’ and ‘holiness’ that is in-step with Jesus Christ. Christian conduct and character is key, but temptations surround us on a daily basis. Even though we may feel isolated, marginalized, but we can find comfort that the Christian Life is never meant to be ‘walked’ alone.  God sent us someone who walked before us, and beside us, and as a fellowship and a church we walk together. It doesn’t matter whether if the sun is setting, or if the sun is rising. It doesn’t matter if feels like two steps forward, or one step backward. Our faith and trust in Christ is ALWAYS progress, never regress. Therefore, we ought to walk alongside. Encourage each your friends who are trailing behind. Slow down and not to rush forward. And as we ‘walk’ this race, it’s not a matter on how you start but how you finish.
